Alanna Powell

Founder

“Boldly Me is my way of giving back to humanity and showing my love for people. You matter, everything you do matters, and we are here to show you how to continue to believe in yourself.”

Alanna Powell, founder of Boldly Me, grew up with Alopecia, an autoimmune condition that causes hair loss. She had undergone multiple rounds of treatment and was able to regrow her hair, but still experienced total hair loss. Throughout her childhood and adolescence, she struggled with feeling unlovable and was scared of being rejected by others for not being “normal”. She feared that she would never find her place in the world.

But she was proven wrong: she was accepted. She later found love and now has 3 wonderful children. She is supported by countless friends and community members who believe in her vision. She is loved and celebrated for exactly who she is – a kind and incredible woman with a gift of empowering others to be their authentic selves.

Alanna created Boldly Me as a message of hope and a reminder that you are worthy, regardless of what you may believe. Boldly Me is proud to teach individuals tools to navigate their negative thoughts and gain confidence so that they can succeed. We believe every person has the ability to reach their potential through education and perseverance.

Ultimately, you are the hero of your own story – and Boldly Me cannot wait to hear it.

Sumon Kyaw

Executive Director

Hi, my name is Sumon Kyaw. I have been a part of Boldly Me for about 10 years. Sumon joined this organization during her senior year of high school to complete service hours for her capstone project, QUEST.

I am currently working part-time as a caregiver and studying for my license after getting my Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.

My future plans for Boldly Me is to spread awareness about this organization and the tools it provides for people of all ages, increase retention in membership, and help the community in self-development and potentially in different ways, such as increasing employment, education, safety, and unity.

Zainab Haque

Vice President & Secretary

Zainab has been a part of Boldly Me for 5 years. She first partnered with Boldly Me when she was in her sophomore year of high school, as the organization was a beneficiary for her club’s concert fundraisers. From there on, she went through the educational curriculum and later completed service hours for her QUEST project in her senior year. Zainab’s favorite part of the program was learning about emotional regulation.

Zainab hopes Boldly Me can continue to serve the community members and to provide a space for individuals to feel welcome. The organization has had a huge impact on her since she was a teenager, and she hopes more people like her can benefit from the program.
